Getting Started

There are some basic tools you will need to get started:

  • A Doll
  • A Beading Needle
  • Thread
  • Beads
  • Storage for it all

Finding your Doll

You can either choose to sew your own doll, or you could buy a blank doll body. The choice is yours.

There are several on-line resources to buy muslin doll bodies. The most recommended are Sunshine Crafts and Sisters and Daughters

If you choose to sew your own doll, there are many resources for patterns on-line. The best is Ronda Kivett's patterns.

Your Doll's Face

There are many different options to create a face for your doll:

  • Mount a mirror as a face. These may be found at Michaels The Arts and Craft Stores, or Sunshine Crafts. Mirrors may be 'set' using a cab setting stitch, as illustrated on Karole Conaway's Tutorial
  • Use a cab for a face, setting it just as described above. Or use a polymer face.
  • Bead the face. Celticat sells a comprehensive Beaded Doll-Face Kit with detailed instructions on how to use this technique.
  • Use your IMAGINATION!!! Faces can be found everywhere!
